On the 21st of December we hosted an Online Festive Green Stitch Social Club Special. It was amazing to see how the Little Hands Community has become global with participants from Singapore, Spain, America and Astrid joining from Kazakhstan! With some dedicated Little Handers putting their alarms on for 6am so they could join in! It was touching to see that with Little Hands turning 20 years next year that the community has spread on a global scale and is made up of familiar and fresh faces.
Everyone shared a way they were being mindful this festive season. It was so inspiring to see how many creative ways you can be mindful. From ways to reduce waste from wrapping, decorations made from old christmas cards, handmade decorations, decorations made from waste, thoughtful presents. And also lovely to see some creations that were made during this year including a stunning dress made from old jeans, a unicorn that was stuffed with plastic bags and a draped cardi pattern cut through one of our online lessons!
We kindly had demonstrations from Astrid and Angela on how to wrap presents using reusable fabric through the Furoshiki, the japanese art of knot wrapping, and ways we can use waste to be made into decorations through Origami Star decoration, and a 3D star out of a drinking can.

Not to worry if you feel you missed out you can see the videos here.

Green Stitch Social Club started in February 2020, with the idea of having a session where people can learn basic sewing skills to help them lead a daily sustainable life whether through repairing their clothes or making replacements for single use plastic items. It wasn’t running long before we had to re-think it as an online session during the spring lockdown. These sessions provided a way to feel connected and to inspire each other through the lockdown. It’s amazing how through technology and joint passion for making built this online community and it was very special to round off the year with this festive special. Thank you to all those who came and made Green Stitch Social Club something everyone looks forward to! We look forward to how the community will grow in 2021!
