Summer 2019 is fast approaching! Our Summer Holiday Courses are the hottest ticket in town! They get booked up in a flash so don’t delay, book your child in today! Join the Little Hands Design Summer Camps for that unique designer summer that you are craving! We have everything that is required to provide your kids, tweens and teens with the fashion forward quirky experience that fits into all the current events that are happening in London right now. With our focus on sustainable fashion your child will learn to design and make whilst being mindful of the environment!

The LHD teachers are a team of fashion and textile industry experts- the perfect people to introduce you to techniques and making ideas. It is an experience that is truly hands-on where students are able to design at their level and collaborate with everyone working on individual projects! Become a master of the sewing machine! Whether you are a starter, have sewn before or need to learn some new techniques, we have just the right thing for you! Imagine telling your friends: ‘Yeah, I made this myself!’. We encourage our students to bring in old clothes, that for example don’t fit anymore, and alter them to make fantastic new items! We call this shopping in your wardrobe!! In the photo above you can see an example of this: two t-shirts made into a dress!

Looking forward to a holiday camp of buzzing creativity, busy hands, loads of giggles and new friends – join the Little Hands Community today!! Just think all of these items you will make will exist nowhere else giving you a completely unique dress sense!!

Don’t just take our word for it here’s what other parents have to say:
In terms of my feedback on the additional information to parents, apps and the course itself – it is fantastic. Truly. I was so pleased to receive your email about this course as you know. I think the structure is the right balance of creating (using the sewing machine, making clothes / items, etc) and teaching about the bigger picture of fashion industry. Education is key I think so that we all recognise the impact we have & contribution we make to this industry so getting an understanding of the greater context, even at a relatively young age that A. is, is important. I work in the fashion retail industry so we have talked often about ‘fast-fashion’ and what that means and how charities use the clothes the children have outgrown to raise funds for their various causes, but there is a vast amount of topics and this is not covered at school. In that respect, what you offer is unique and the topics you cover are vast and interesting, and getting the children involved in a practical way – with their own presentation – is a great way for them to engage and learn.
The apps are great fun! We discuss them as a family – in fact, in the car on Sunday on the way to my son’s football match, we had a big chat about the CoGo app and the local stores and A. is able to lead on these conversations and talk about what we found in our neighbourhood and it’s brilliant for her as she is the ‘little sister’ but she is ahead of her brother in this area so it’s great for her confidence. All kids are loving technology as we know, but these apps fall into the educational bracket which can be hard to find. A., my son and I all had a laugh putting together her collage on the other app last evening. Mostly they were laughing at me not knowing how to work the app – ha ha ha! – but it starts the conversation about what clothes do you love and why and why do some people buy a ‘cheaper’ clothing item and then throw it away to buy a new one for the next birthday party, etc.
Frequently Asked Questions
What will my child learn?

We teach everyone basic tailoring skills such as: how to thread and use a sewing machine, cutting, pinning, ironing, and a whole host of sewing and design tips and tricks! These will vary in complexity depending on the age and ability of the individual child. We have projects and exercises to suit 8 to 18 year olds! The students also learn how to mend, alter, thrift, look after and to dispose of fashion items, helping them become responsible consumers. With our focus on sustainability each student will learn about many topics concerning this, for example the life cycle of clothes, new technology used to reduce the impact of the fashion industry and how to be sustainable and ethical when working in the industry. Following all this brilliant knowledge together with practical skills and abilities each student can become a sustainable fashion ambassador!
Additionally we work with industrial waste donated by leading fashion houses such as Ted Baker, Orlebar Brown, Anya Hindmarch and many more.
Why choose a whole week?

Getting immersed in our world of sewing for a whole week has great benefits, we see a great sense of achievement in those who have the time to work on longer projects and improve their skills from Monday to Friday. Having a full week with us will open your eyes to all the amazing creations that are possible within our ‘set programme’ and you will have the choice of simple or advanced projects dependent on your level!!
If you are not 100% sure about signing up yet, we offer drop ins on Saturdays during term time so get yourself booked in and come and experience the LHD vibe!
Can they bring in their own designs?

We love to see young minds being creative and coming up with their own designs! The best thing to do is pop us an email with details before the course to give us a little time to prepare ourselves for how we can help! We do need to manage expectations that if it’s someone’s first time sewing they won’t be able to make a ball gown! As they say, you need to walk before you can run. If we think something is too tricky we will of course explain our reasoning. Sometimes it’s best to practise basic skills with easier projects and build up to that dream item!
How is the week Structured?

The first day focuses on an introduction to sustainable fashion, as well as getting to grips with the machine and the health and safety in the room. Throughout the rest of the week many different topics are introduced and worked with and each day is supported by a ‘call for action’. During the week, each child is provided with the opportunity to choose a topic and then give a little 5 minute presentation, enabling them to deepen their knowledge and understanding and practise their presentation skills! The last day is MUFTI day, meaning we encourage everyone to wear something they have made to celebrate the development of each student during the week, and the fun that was had!
