Nestled in Toronto, the Woodbine expansion, unveiled on May 3, 2024, offers a multifaceted destination. The new theater is part of a 33-acre “entertainment resort” built and incorporated into Etobicoke’s existing Woodbine Casino. The introduction of poker at Great Canadian Toronto will also provide exciting opportunities for poker players at Great Blue Heron Casino and Hotel (“Great Blue Heron”). Both properties will offer entry into some of Canada’s largest poker tournaments, further solidifying their positions as premier poker destinations.

Due to simultaneous construction at other parts of the casino expansion, the theatre required creative solutions for crane placement. With limited space outside the building, Walters Field Services (WFS) positioned smaller 80-ton crawler cranes on the already poured suspended slab of the theatre floor.

Though I may not be one of the many who will follow him to Lost Evenings’ next edition in Edinburgh, I’m so glad I went. I returned home with fantastic memories, a few new artists to check out, and no regrets (aside from missing out on playing that damn open mic!). The OBGMs did what they do best the following day, injecting a shot of adrenaline into the crowd to kick off Day 3’s punk rock night. As local Montreal-scene legend Guilhem was finishing up a strong acoustic set on the side stage, The Dirty Nil kept the energy going with their punk-tinged rock-and-roll sound. Frank’s set consisted of him playing through his newest album in full, but it was his perfect transition of playing my favourite song off Undefeated, Never the Back Problems, into his heaviest tune, Non Serviam, to kick off the punk rock portion, that sold me. The crowd absolutely erupted into the moshing sea of chaos I had been anticipating the previous night.

Montreal Rocks delivers the best of the city’s live music scene, offering in-depth reviews and dynamic photography from concerts across Montreal. After experiencing my first Lost Evenings in full, I have a lot of conflicting thoughts. I had an absolute blast, but as a part convention, part music festival, there were a lot of aspects I feel could be improved upon. Primarily, how empty the first half of the day feels when you can’t realistically leave the venue. However, I was surrounded by community, and a carefully nurtured one at that. A few thousand people brought together by nothing more than their love for Frank Turner.

Norbec’s Noroc® insulated metal panels were used for the entire building envelope of the theater in order to achieve the required fire rating. A decorative architectural mesh was then added on top of the panels to create a stunning look. The supports were placed at closer intervals to handle the crane loads and maintain the stability of the garage ceiling and theatre floor. This allowed construction to continue above the garage without disrupting other trades.
